Maka – Senegal

Looking for Support

Makacolibantang is located in the Southeast Senegal and almost 280 km from the district of Tambacounda. It belong to the region of Tambacounda and the village have a distance from the capital Dakar 205 km.

Visiting a man, who take care of the children in Maka, teaching them about how to read, write and understand holy Quran.  Most of these children come from poor family brought to the “Sheikh” to teach them about life and living together as one family. According to the first son who is “Lamin”. They have more than 40 pupils who is learning Quran in their “ Madresa”. They sit outside on the ground Matt learning the Holy Quran.

Medrese or madrasa Arabic مدرسة ‘place of study’, plural madāris; Turkish medrese, also medresse in German, has been the name for a teaching institution since the 10th century, in which the knowledge of the time is to be taught according to Islamic.

In this Madrasa include his own children from 2 years upwards. Some of these 40 children live with their family outside, some of them attend formal education and later join the Family to learn Quran about Islam and some of these children stayed with the Sheikh at his own compound.

The community are poor, peasant Farmers and mostly woman find themselves in agricultural productions or sales at the market. Most of these women in this village take care of the household activities, small businesses, small scale food production to assist the family on the daily feeding and activities. The women’s taking care of these children are asking for only one bore hole and a fence for them grow their own foods to feed themselves and the poor Children.

Reaching to these children and Family: They need at least two classrooms, Water pumps with solar energy to helps them to produce foods. This will help them to provide the family and the near neighbours to be active in gardening. They have space to produce food to feed the whole family and the children under their care. From our own observations, I saw these children living outside having food from the family. During the time to eat, there is no discrimination, every children, visitors, family members and etc. eat at the Sheikh place from Breakfast, Lunch, sometimes within this times snacks and dinner. They struggle with the small they have of their own extend to provide food, through Gardening, farming of groundnut and small ruminant production.

Please we are really looking for a help to render to help the poor community, especially the “Sheikh” and the neighbours in Senegal.

Prioritising their needs:

  1. Borehole with Solar energy Pump
  2. Fencing for their food production
  3. 2 Class Room – for future plans to convert it to formal education, for both learning Holy Quran – Islam with formal French education as an official language
